Shelbyville sits almost exactly on the I-64 corridor between Louisville and Frankfort. That is convenient for driving and inconvenient for renting — the depots are at either end, so getting a car usually means a trip to Louisville airport or into Frankfort first.
We come to you instead. Shelbyville is a straight run west for us, and Louisville Muhammad Ali International is only about thirty-five minutes further on if you are flying.
Shelby County calls itself the Saddlebred Capital of the World and means it. The farms and the show circuit bring visitors in from out of state, often flying into Louisville and needing a vehicle for a few days.
The 2027 Oaks falls on Friday 30 April and the Derby on Saturday 1 May. Shelbyville is close enough to Louisville to be a sensible base that week and far enough out to still have rooms. It is also the week when rental cars across the region simply run out, whatever your confirmation says.
The outlets at Simpsonville pull a steady weekend crowd off I-64, and a fair share of those visitors are staying somewhere nearby without their own vehicle.
If you are flying out of SDF and would rather not leave a car in long-stay parking for a week, delivery and collection at the terminal is usually cheaper and always less trouble.
