The vehicle

A 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe Premier — full-size body-on-frame SUV, seven seats, four-wheel drive. Adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning, lane keeping assist, backup camera, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless entry.

This is the one people book when the trip has actual logistics: a family, three suitcases, golf clubs, a car seat, or a Kentucky winter that turned up early. It is Turo's Deluxe class, which is a polite way of saying it's the nice version rather than the base rental fleet trim.

Those two interior shots are the ones worth looking at properly — the second row and the space behind the third row. That's the difference between a full-size SUV and something that only claims seven seats.

What it's right for

Families flying in

Three rows and cargo space that still works with the third row up. If you're landing at CVG or SDF with children and a week's luggage, this is the sensible answer rather than two compact cars.

Groups on the Bourbon Trail

Six adults, one driver, distilleries between Frankfort, Versailles and Lawrenceburg. It's a far better arrangement than a convoy.

Keeneland, Derby and event weekends

Race weekends mean parking a long way from where you're going and moving a group in one vehicle. Full-size SUVs are also the first thing the rental counters run out of.

Winter and bad weather

Four-wheel drive genuinely matters on Kentucky back roads in January, and it's the one thing you can't retrofit once the weather turns.

When your own vehicle is off the road

Insurance replacement, a breakdown, a body shop holding your car for three weeks. Delivery to your address means you don't need a lift to go and collect a rental.
